While in Search for a New Home

After you have chosen where you would like to start looking for a new home there are a few helpful things you can do to make your search easier. First you will want to set up a house hunting trip in the new location, and you may want to make it a two or three day trip and include local real estate agents. You may also find it helpful if you subscribe to the local newspaper in advance because newspapers tend to have large real estate sections.

After you have found a few homes you are interested in and would like to look at, there are a few things you should do to make things easier. For instance you should make a list of all the dimensions of your major appliances and large furniture to take with you, as well as a tape measure to measure each home you look at. You should try to establish credit in the new location, and you can ask your banker for a referral to a correspondent bank and your banker can give you a credit reference as well.

When you do decide to move you should also try to avoid moving during the summer which is the peak moving season, and avoid moving on a weekend or a holiday. Instead try moving during the off season and during the week sometime. The first few days and last few days of the month tend to be the busiest days for moving, buying, and selling homes, so if you are selling your old home you should get your home on the market as soon as possible. You should also keep a record of all the expenses involved with your move because they may be tax deductible.
